The fabric that Carhartt uses to make its clothing has been treated to be water repellent.  When caring for your Carhartt jacket, regular laundering will be just fine to keep it in tip top order.  The treatment will not wash away.  Just follow the washing instructions.  As a matter of fact, Carhartt guarantees the garment will remain flame resistant for the life of the garment.
